Silvered Eagle Horstmann & Sons Makers 1849 Presentation Sword Capt D. Baldwin Franklin Guards

Silver plated eagle pommel and cross guard Horstmann & Sons Makers Philada. presentation sword and silvered plated brass scabbard. It is a fine presentation grade presentation sword and scabbard. The grip is fancy with carved designs and has some hairlines. The hand guard is silvered twisted copper or brass chain. The little top ring is a replacement. The spread wing eagle hand guard has a little wobble. The blade has a grey patina with the etching worn away. The scabbard has some little dents and dings. The scabbard is silver plated brass with great designs and a fancy presentation that reads: Presented to Capt. David W. Baldwin. By the Franklin Guards Dec. 24th 1849. Brooklyn L. I. The Franklin Guards were Company D. of the 14th Regiment New York Militia and were recruited from the No. 3 Fire Engine Company. They were completed and mustered in during Feb. 1848 with David Baldwin being elected Capt. It measures 37 1/2" overall. Capt. Baldwin wore this sword and scabbard and it shows use and age wear. It is quite beautiful though. The pictures are accurate as to its condition. $2795
