Early Low Convex Engineers Coat Button John Smith & Eagle 1835-40 Backmark

Non dug gilted brass pre Civil War Engineers coat button. The front has great gold and detail. It is a low convex, almost flat, 2-piece button. The reverse has a small depressed, c.1835-1840, JOHN SMITH NEW YORK, inside a banner with a spread wing eagle, backmark. The button is nicer in person then in the pictures. This button was worn by engineers during the Seminole Wars, the Mexican American War, and the Civil War. This button measures 23 mm's in diameter.$225
