Non dug pre-Civil War Maryland Military Institute staff cuff button. The front shows a closed book with a sword and quill crossed on top of it. The design is below MD. MIL. INST. and on a lined field. There is a slight low spot near the sword handle and some scuffs from use. The reverse has a c.1855-60 CANFIELD. BRO & CO. BAL., outside a ring of dots, backmark. The shank is straight. This is a rare Confederate school button. $450
